Crown yourself and become King for the day!

Everyone you meet will know you are King by the shiny crown you wear upon your head. Just follow the easy directions below and let the fun begin!

You will need:
- Cardboard (like an old cereal box or shipping box)
- Piece of newspaper, wrapping paper or other long paper
- Aluminum foil
- Construction paper
- Sequins, glitter, beads (optional)
- Scissors
- Tape
- Glue
- Ruler
- Stapler

Step 1:
Cut a strip about one inch wide the whole length of the newspaper or long paper you have to use. You will use this to measure the distance around your head. Take the newspaper strip and wrap it around your head. You only need it to go a little bit farther than once around. Tear off the extra paper. You now have a "newspaper ruler."



Step 2:
Break open the cardboard box and cut it so you have panels (flat parts). Lay the two big panels next to each other so their short sides are touching. Tape along where the two edges meet on both sides of the cardboard so they don't fall apart. Now put your newspaper ruler (from Step 1) on the attached cardboard panel to measure how long the crown needs to be. Trim off any extra length.



Step 3:
Click on the image below and print out the pattern for the crown design. Cut along the black lines. Place the pattern on your cardboard and trace the jagged crown design. Keep scooting over the pattern and lining it up with the edge of the already drawn pattern and trace until you have the crown design going down the entire length of your crown.



Step 4:
Cut out your design along the outer edges of the traced pattern.



Step 5:
Cover the crown with aluminum foil. You may want to glue down the foil so it doesn't slip off! You can also cut pretend jewels out of construction paper and glue them on your crown. Glue on sequins, glitter or beads if you have them.



Step 6:
When you are finished decorating, ask a grownup to help you staple the ends of the crown together.
